>Rage is Here, Reviews Mixed, PC Version Flawed

>RAGE dropped today, the new post-apocalyptic FPS from id Software. If you live under a rock, now you know. The reviews have been decidedly mixed on the game. Ars Technica, not suprisingly, thought it was crap. PCGamer had a decidedly different take on the RPG/shooter. They liked it a lot.

The real losers though, were once again a lot of PC gamers left out to dry by a console port that was buggy on release. It appears as though ATI’s BF3 beta drivers are causing a conflict with RAGE. Update or rollback accordingly PC gamers. Especially if you are seeing screen flickering, or issues such as these:
The graphics issues don’t stop there. The only available options right now are AA and you resolution. No vsync, no real control over anything else. Not only does the game remind you of Borderlands style, but it seems to be just as bad of a console port. Our own contributor John said the game seems worse than the build they played a Quakecon.
I have not played it yet, but those who have had it hands-on, such as Seananners, tweeted that it was fantastic and working fine for him. Others, like my pal Darby, are having the ATI issues that are plaguing those cards at the moment.
I had faith that id would get it right. They are at heart a PC gaming company, they invented this whole genre. Carmack is an amazing guy, but I just feel like we’ve been cheated again. Stop porting, please. Hopefully they patch it up fast, because the game certainly looks good and needs to be enjoyed. Problems like these only damper excitement. Let us hope that Skyrim isn’t plagued with the same issues.
