Skyrim becomes fastest-selling game in Steam’s history

It will come as no surprise to most of you that Skyrim is a pretty popular game. After all, its release made a pretty big splash. But you may not have guessed it was this popular.

Bethesda has reported that Skyrim outsold every other PC title last month by a factor of more than three to one. And if that’s not enough for you, Jason Holtman, Valve’s Director of Business Development, revealed that Skyrim is Steam’s fastest-selling title ever. Holtman goes on to say that “Bethesda’s commitment to and understanding of the PC as a gaming platform shows in the great review scores, spectacular launch, and continued high player numbers that Skyrim has received.”

I’d say we here at KBMOD echo Holtman’s sentiments. Bethesda’s support for the PC version of Skyrim has been impressive thus far and has no doubt been a major reason why the game has been such a smash hit.

Hopefully this will give developers a bit of a wake-up call to the “dying” PC gaming market. Goes to show that if they put the time in for a good rapport and a solid game they get good returns!

That’s the problem though. They don’t want to put in the time, and probably never WILL put in the time. Why? Because console players accept mediocrity and buy it by the masses. PC players don’t take as much bull from game releases. It’s far easier to mass produce mediocrity than it is to make masterpieces. Therefore, for those big-name companies, it’s a matter of making and selling as much as possible. They get more sales on a console from PC in pretty much everything, so… rush game –> throw on console half-finished game they’ll promise to fix with DLC/updates –> half-ass PC port –> profit.
Only people with a real love for games and the willingness to let their devs take their time would let the true greatness shine.
