We here at KBMOD have a lot of respect for the past. A few of us began our PC gaming love affair when id Software’s masterpiece Doom was released. If you missed that golden era of PC gaming, prepare for an important history lesson.
PCGamesN published an article today on the making of Doom. I encourage you to read how the small team (which ended up being only two people by the end of the project) created one of the greatest games of all time and changed gaming forever. And while Doom is best known for its role in creating the modern FPS genre, it was also a pioneer in other aspects like mod tools–the WAD files that housed Doom’s game content were relatively easy to modify, allowing players to create and change the game in ways the developers didn’t originally intend or specifically plan for.
