PC Build Guide – January 2018

Welcome to the January 2018 version of our PC build guides. We have implemented price targets ($800, $1400, $2000) on ourselves and have had to make trade-offs with each build. Your personal budget will likely be flexible, but we hope this article will give you a baseline. You can of course spend more or spend less, but you often run into a case of diminishing returns at either end. Please keep in mind that pricing information is immediate and may not necessarily reflect real prices by the time you have read this article.

Two main themes continue to make for challenging build trade-offs at our price targets: memory prices are getting truly ridiculous (possibly due to price fixing by DRAM suppliers), and many video cards are sporadically out of stock or higher priced due to strong demand from cryptocurrency mining.
