The Red Faction Franchise is officially dead. Poor sales have doomed it after Red Faction: Armageddon failed to do well. Publisher THQ released a statement saying as much today.
The first game in this series was a favorite of mine back in 2001 because it featured some of the first destructible environments in a game. You could blow through walls and floors and it was a jolly good time. Other games have taken this and ran with it, most recently Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and the upcoming Battlefield 3 employing this with great success.
So we mourn your loss Red Faction, you gave us a great new feature in games.
