>Ivy Bridge Will Support Impossible Video Resolution

>
Ivy Bridge is Intel’s next big thing on the horizon. It will be more powerful than Sandy Bridge and that’s saying a lot for one of the best platforms of all time. Details have come out on the new integrated GPU on the platform and it is definitely from somewhere in the future.

Currently Sandy Bridge maxes out at 2560×1600 resolution. This is possible with DisplayPort and a very good monitor. However, Ivy Bridge takes this a step further. To be specific, 4 steps forward.
It will support QUUUUUUUUUUUUAD HD (had to do it). Yes, you read that right. That’s 4096×4096 resolution. Why is this from the future? Why is this impossible? Well, the bandwidth this uses is beyond what any display interface that currently exists can do. DisplayLink has 21.6gb/s but this would take 36 gb/s. Pretty big gap there.
So while we wait for the interfaces to catch up, we can fathom what sort of video card it is going to take to run that resolution well. Good lord.
