1Frictional Games Delves Into Sci-fi with SOMA
After the dark modern day Penumbra series and the Victorian horror of Amnesia, where is Frictional Games going to go next? Into the realm of Science Fiction of course!
The website for their new project, SOMA and accompanying live action videos seem to be somewhat inspired by the user created SCP Foundation Wiki. This Wiki contains a fake government database of strange objects of unknown origin, each with an SCP number and horrifying story behind them. As you can see with the two videos in this post, both are about collected pieces of technology with unknown pasts and disturbing functions. One, #2656 “Vivarium” appears to show the viewer the death of the person who previously used the device on its monitor before killing them in turn. The second video, shown below, is a malformed robot that appears to have copied the soul of one of the researchers at the laboratory.
We have no gameplay footage yet but I wouldn’t think Frictional will stray too far from their tried and true formula. No other details are known but let’s hope these videos keep coming as I am now seriously looking forward to more teasers, let alone the game itself!
