>Confused by nVidia’s model numbers and hierarchy? Seems to be a pretty common problem these days.  I stumbled upon this Lifehacker article and thought it might be handy to share.

Now, it certainly doesn’t tell the entire story (in fact it’s a 3DMark Vantage benchmark with a reference system), but check out this handy performance graph on nVidia.com:

There’s a pretty obvious typo there with the 4th entry being the 8800 GTX rather than a 9800 GTX, but at least it gives a bit of reference straight from nVidia.

Why are we seeing newer cards with lower scores?  Thermal displacement, power consumption, refined manufacturing process among other things.

Side note; I’m feeling pretty good about my 9800 GTX vs ObviouslyJesus’s GT 220.
